Popular Hair Grow Therapies - Their Advantages & Disadvantages

Popular Hair Grow Therapies - Their Advantages & Disadvantages

Different Hair Regrowth Treatment

Shedding hair is a part of the natural hair growth cycle which makes hair follicles pass through different growth, resting, and hibernation periods. Every one of us sheds around 80 to 120 hairs a day, and we do not even notice it. But when this shedding escalates and you start seeing fallen hair in the shower, in towels, in couches almost everywhere - this is the time you must take it seriously.

Male-pattern baldness or female-pattern baldness is usually caused by hereditary conditions. It generally occurs gradually and in predictable patterns — and eventually takes over the whole head. In men, it is identified by a receding hairline and bald spots and in women, it causes thinning of hair.

There might be many other factors like chemical treatments, harsh climatic conditions, pollution, nutritional deficiencies, hormonal changes, medication side-effects, or stress which can disrupt the normal hair growth cycle leading to more hair shedding.

The good news is that hair loss treatments have advanced so fast in the recent decade and you need not hide your bald scalp with an uncomfortable sweaty wig, or a scarf, when you can regrow real hair to cover it.

There are many popular hair growth therapies that are proven to be effective in most cases, but all the therapies begin from underlying the real cause of hair loss and then working on it.

Hair Grow Therapy: Popular Hair Regrowth Treatments

  • Hair Transplant therapy - Pros & Cons

Hair transplant is a surgical process that is often painful. In this process, hair is taken from the healthy area of your scalp and then is trans located to the bald pattern. Though this is an artificial way to regrow hair in the bald regions, the therapy doesn’t cure the cause in affected areas, hence needs to be done repeatedly.

Advantages

With this technique, you can have hair back in your bald patches faster than any other therapy. Also, the hairs are taken from your own head so they match the texture and do not look odd when shifted in bald spots.

Disadvantages

The treatment requires multiple sittings and redos, which makes it invasive and expensive. The treatment is very painful and has many side effects like bleeding, infections, swelling, and scarring at the site of grafting.

  • Low-level laser therapy - Pros & Cons

This laser-based therapy is also referred to as red light or cold laser therapy and cold laser therapy. The therapy has gained huge traction in recent years as it is considered to be safe, painless, and less invasive than hair transplant procedures.

In low-level laser therapy, photons are injected into scalp tissues which improve blood circulation and stimulate the hair growth cycle which encourages hair follicles to grow new hair.

Advantages

The therapy has no side effects, works directly on the hair growth mechanism, and is considered to be safe, non-invasive, and painless.

Disadvantages

It is a time-consuming process and requires multiple sessions. It is an expensive treatment and in some cases, it might not be effective, especially in advanced stages of hair loss when the hair growth mechanism has already been damaged and cannot be stimulated.

  • Stem cell therapy: Pros & Cons

In this therapy stem cells are used to stimulate the damaged or dead hair follicles. This therapy helps shrunken hair follicles to develop in the right direction to promote hair growth.

Advantages

This therapy helps to regrow hair naturally and encourages new hair growth within 3 to 4 months of therapy. Stem cell therapy is considered a safe and effective procedure for curing hair thinning in both men and women. This hair growth treatment is considered to be long-lasting as stem cells renew themselves through cell division and help in regrowing hair even in dead cells over time.

Disadvantages

Since all the stem cell treatments aren’t yet approved, and are still under clinical trials, their effectiveness or side-effects in a long period of time is debatable. Some patients have reported adverse effects and pain post-therapy.

  • Rogaine Hair Growth Therapy: Pros & Cons

Rogaine or topical minoxidil is a comparatively easier therapy for hair loss. It is applied directly by rubbing it onto the scalp on the bald spots and affected areas where hair fall is prominent. The active compound in minoxidil encourages blood flow in the roots while increasing both the size of the follicles and the diameter of the hair shaft. This way minoxidil stimulates the hair follicles to regrow hair naturally and widens the previously shrunken or damaged follicles to nourish them and makes hair thicker.

Advantages

Minoxidil can be applied to the scalp so easily that you do not even need to go to a dermatologist and can start your therapy yourselves at home. The treatment is comparatively cheaper than hair transplants and stem cell therapies.

Disadvantages

If your skin is sensitive or you are already suffering from any kind of infection in the scalp, the application of minoxidil can be really horrifying and can lead to itching, stinging, scaling, flaking, or redness. This therapy is suitable for those who have been diagnosed with hair loss at an early stage, if you are already bald minoxidil won’t be able to regrow new hair in those patches. The worst thing about minoxidil is when you stop using it, your hair starts thinning again.

  • Ayurvedic treatment for Hair Thinning

Ayurveda works on underlying the real cause of the damage and then works on it both internally and externally. In all the above therapies you have already read that a healthy hair growth cycle depends on healthy follicles, roots, and scalp. Ayurveda works on maintaining the overall health of this system by nourishing it internally and protecting it from external damages. For example, Ayurvedic shampoos enriched with the goodness of Amla, Reetha, Shikakai cleanse the scalp to prevent infections; herbal hair masks loaded with Bhringraj, coconut, Brahmi prevent hair from pollution, dust, harsh sunlight and maintains their natural texture; while massaging with coconut, black seed, jojoba oil, or aloe vera keeps the scalp healthy, follicles nourished and stimulate the circulation of nutrition from shafts to tresses. Ayurvedic oil is the best hair regrowth oil for baldness. This way an ayurvedic therapy for hair loss treatment works with an all-around approach to regrow hair naturally.

Advantages

These are based on natural herbal ingredients which have been proved safe historically. These treatments are comparatively cheaper and free from any possible side effects. The best part about Ayurvedic hair growth therapy is it is based on uprooting the cause behind the damage so that you get long-lasting benefits.

Disadvantages

It needs to be followed strictly and sometimes with a dietary discipline that some of you may find tough to maintain. Also in the case of genetic hair loss, Ayurvedic therapy takes a long time to show its effects.
